Ever see one of these? This truck (half truck?) is used to pull sea planes out of the lake. It drives down what is essentially a boat launch and the see plane powers right up onto the skid there. Then the truck powers and maneuvers the sea plane down the runway to its holding area. They probably have 4 or 5 old trucks outfitted just this same way from what I could see.

I had never seen one before I spotted this at my local airport on a bike ride. Here's a much better picture I sourced from google.

I don't see the advantage of chopping the bed off. Why not just leave it there?

Lo and behold, Google offers a video of the exact truck I saw, in action. Just remember, turn left to go right.

Seems like a specialized tool for the job. I'm sure there are more expensive ways of doing it that are probably better.

I love that they often seem to retain the original rear bumper.

Kinja'd!!!

I also found what is surely the same truck as in your pic.

That looks like the same truck/airport, yep! And a much better picture. You can even see the fence I was standing behind. Great observation about the rear bumper, that's funny. I also found a video of the truck on Google that I posted in the other thread.

I have seen a picture from a similar truck before. I think that the idea is both stupid and awesome at the same time.
